OTT vs Cinema War in India | ओटीटी बनाम सिनेमा: कौन जीत रहा है?

Box Office ने रचा इतिहास, फिर भी Audience घर बैठकर देख रही है — यह लड़ाई उतनी सीधी नहीं जितनी दिखती है।

Box Office का Record तोड़ना, फिर भी Footfall गिरना — यह कैसा विरोधाभास है?

साल 2025 भारतीय सिनेमा के इतिहास में सुनहरे अक्षरों में दर्ज हो गया। India Box Office ने पहली बार ₹13,000 करोड़ का आंकड़ा पार किया, जो अब तक का सर्वकालिक उच्चतम स्तर है । लेकिन इस जश्न के पीछे एक चौंकाने वाली सच्चाई छुपी है — पूरे देश में सभी भाषाओं की फिल्मों की कुल Footfall यानी दर्शकों की संख्या 5.7% घटकर 832 million रह गई । यानी Ticket की कीमत बढ़ी, कमाई बढ़ी, लेकिन असल में Theatre जाने वाले लोग कम हो गए।​​

यह विरोधाभास सिर्फ एक आंकड़ों का खेल नहीं है। यह उस बड़ी लड़ाई की झलक है जो आज भारत में OTT और Cinema के बीच छिड़ी हुई है। Average Ticket Price (ATP) 2024 के ₹134 से बढ़कर 2025 में ₹161 हो गई, यानी 20% की छलांग । Hindi films की ATP तो ₹215 तक पहुंच गई। पैसा आ रहा है, लेकिन वो दर्शक जो कभी हर हफ्ते Theatre जाता था, अब Sofa पर बैठकर Screen देख रहा है।

Hindi Cinema की Comeback और OTT का Correction — एक साथ क्यों हो रहा है?

Hindi cinema ने 2025 में जबरदस्त वापसी की। Hindi film की Ticket Sales 11.3% बढ़कर 256 million हो गई । Dhurandhar, Chhaava और Saiyaara जैसी फिल्मों ने दर्शकों को Theatre तक खींचा। लेकिन इसी दौर में एक और खबर आई जो पूरी Industry को हिला देने वाली थी — Indian OTT Sector में Original Content Volume लगातार दूसरे साल घटा । OTT Platforms जो कभी हर तरह की फिल्म और Series के लिए पैसे लुटाते थे, अब हाथ खींच रहे हैं।

Film Business Analyst Girish Johar ने साफ शब्दों में कहा कि पूरा Revenue Pie सिकुड़ गया है — Box Office, Music Rights, Satellite Rights, और OTT Rights, सब तरफ कमी आई है । Pandemic के दौरान OTT Platforms ने Subscribers बढ़ाने की होड़ में Producers को मनमाने दाम दिए थे। अब जब उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि उम्मीद के मुताबिक नए Subscribers नहीं आ रहे, तो उन्होंने OTT Rights की कीमत 50% तक काट दी ।

OTT Market की असली ताकत — Numbers झूठ नहीं बोलते

यह मत समझिए कि OTT कमजोर हो रहा है। भारत का OTT Market FY2024-25 में ₹37,940 करोड़ तक पहुंच गया । इसमें JioHotstar ने ₹8,835 करोड़ की कमाई की और YouTube अकेले 38% Revenue Share के साथ ₹14,300 करोड़ से भी ज्यादा कमाई पर काबिज रहा । PwC की Report के अनुसार भारत का OTT Revenue 2029 तक $3.5 Billion तक पहुंचने का अनुमान है ।

Subscribers की बात करें तो JioHotstar ने 2025 की शुरुआत में IPL के Paid Subscription Model की वजह से महज चार महीनों में अपना Subscriber Base 50 million से बढ़ाकर 300 million कर लिया — यह दुनिया के किसी भी Streaming Platform का सबसे तेज Growth Record है । Amazon Prime Video के 65 million Paying Subscribers हैं और Netflix India के 20 million, जिनसे Netflix ने 2025 में India से $905 million की Revenue कमाई । ये आंकड़े बताते हैं कि Audience OTT छोड़ नहीं रही — बस उसकी Habits बदल रही हैं।

8-Week Theatrical Window Rule — Exhibitors का जवाबी हमला

March 2026 में South Indian Exhibitors ने एक ऐतिहासिक फैसला लिया। 11 March 2026 को Bangalore में हुए Summit में तय किया गया कि कोई भी Film Theatre में Release के कम से कम 8 हफ्ते बाद ही किसी OTT Platform पर आ सकती है । पहले यह Window सिर्फ 4 हफ्ते की थी, और Exhibitors का मानना था कि इसी वजह से दर्शक दूसरे हफ्ते से Theatre जाना बंद कर देते थे — क्योंकि उन्हें पता होता था कि एक महीने में Online मिल जाएगी ।

यह कदम सिर्फ एक नियम नहीं है, यह एक War Declaration है। Exhibitors का कहना है कि OTT की जल्दी Availability ने Mid-Budget और Small-Budget Films की कमर तोड़ दी। अब 8-Week Rule से Films को लंबा Theatrical Run मिलेगा और दर्शकों को अगर जल्दी देखना है तो Theatre आना ही होगा । OTT Platforms को यह नियम मंजूर करना पड़ा क्योंकि उनकी Theatrical Performance पर Payout Link होने लगी है — जो Film Box Office पर चली, उसे ही अच्छी OTT Deal मिलेगी ।

Content Strategy की जंग — OTT Originals vs Theatrical Release

OTT Platforms ने यह भी समझ लिया है कि Theatrical Success एक Built-in Marketing Tool है। Ranveer Singh की Dhurandhar ने Theatre में शानदार Performance दी, और जब Netflix पर आई तो 23 million Views के साथ Netflix Global Top 10 में Post-Theatrical Indian Films का All-Time Record तोड़ दिया । यानी अगर फिल्म पहले Theatre में जीती, तो OTT पर भी जीतती है।​

Mid-Budget और Experimental Films के लिए OTT एक अलग तरह का Platform बन गया है। यहां Performance Ticket Sales से नहीं, Viewing Hours, Completion Rates और Subscription Spikes से मापी जाती है । Filmmakers को Opening Weekend की Race से राहत मिलती है और वो Slow-Burn Storytelling, Character-Driven Scripts और Dark Comedies जैसे Genres को खुलकर explore कर सकते हैं। इसी वजह से Direct-to-OTT Releases कम हो रहे हैं, लेकिन OTT Originals Series का Format अभी भी बेहद मजबूत है।

भविष्य — Cinema और OTT एक-दूसरे के दुश्मन नहीं, साझेदार बन रहे हैं

2026 से Industry एक नए Rules-Based Model की तरफ बढ़ रही है जहां Theatre और OTT एक-दूसरे को Replace नहीं, बल्कि एक-दूसरे को Feed करते हैं। 2026 में India Box Office 25-30% और बढ़ने की उम्मीद जताई गई है । OTT Platforms अब Bidding Wars की बजाय Script Approval, Release Date Control और Strict Clauses के साथ Deals कर रहे हैं । Producers के लिए Theatrical Performance अब सिर्फ Prestige का मामला नहीं रहा — यह OTT Deal की शर्त बन गई है।

जिस OTT ने Pandemic में Producers की Safety Net बनी थी, वही अब उनसे Box Office Accountability मांग रही है । यह लड़ाई Cinema की जीत या OTT की जीत से ज्यादा एक Industry Reset है — जहां Content ही King है, Platform नहीं। जो Film Audience को Theatre में खींचती है, वही OTT पर भी राज करती है। और जो Audience को नहीं खींच पाती, उसे कोई Platform नहीं बचा सकता।
